October 24, 2011 - Absentee voting begins

Beginning Monday, Oct. 24 and continuing through noon Nov. 7, anyone wishing to vote in person before an absentee voter board may do so by coming to the West Conference Room, located on the first floor in the Decatur County Courthouse. Hours will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m and 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The two Saturday mornings, Oct. 29 and Nov. 5, the courthouse will be open for absentee voting only from 8 a.m. to noon.

Voters must remember photo identification is required before casting absentee ballots. Voters who are unable or unwilling to present photo ID will be asked to cast a provisional ballot. The voter will then have 10 days to follow up with the County Election Board and either present a valid photo ID or affirm that one of the law's exemptions applies to them.

If you have questions, contact the Decatur County Clerk's office at 663-8223.
