DECATUR COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
DECEMBER 4, 2006
The Decatur County Commissioners opened their December 4th meeting with
following present: Jerome Buening- President, Charles Buell, John Richards
and Bridgett Weber-Auditor.
The November 20th meeting minutes were read and approved.
Mark Mohr – Highway Department informed Commissioners that the meeting with
INDOT has not taken place to discuss frontage roads. Mr. Mohr
requested that Commissioners maintain health insurance benefits for an
employee that needs to be off work without compensation and Commissioners
agreed. The bridge at the Park has been through a pre-final inspection
with a few items to fix. Mr. Mohr requested the Commissioners take a
look at the specifications for construction of new roads in Decatur County.
The specifications have not been updated since 1964.
Claims were reviewed and approved.
Gilliam Janitorial discussed preparing a contract for the county offices
based on quotes that have been approved for 2006-2007. Gilliam and Mr. Buell
will discuss the contract for the Sheriff Offices with Sheriff Templeton.
David Israel discussed plans for the new Burney/Clay Fire Department. Eden
Enterprises will be the general contractor for this project and plans to
hire local companies to do sub-contracting. Mr. Israel said the existing
building will stay until the new department is constructed.
Mayor Frank Manus discussed a letter written on October 11, 2006 in
reference to the City/County Airport. At this point, the City Council is
prepared to support the airport. Commissioners agreed they are in favor also
but at this time the County Council is not. Mayor Manus will attend the
County Council meeting on December 19th to discuss with Council members
further.
Pam Blasdel discussed the Mass ProPri Plan. Several Flu Clinics are being
held at the Health Department. Mrs. Blasdel also discussed the draft
of the EMA Comprehensive Plan and will let Ms. Polanski review it and
provide copies to the Commissioners before their next meeting.
Margaret Polanski provided an update on the trash and sewer issues from the
November 20th meeting. Ms. Polanski will ask people in Sardinia that have
complained about the septic problems to be supporters to fix problems. Ms.
Polanski will also write a letter to IDEM to extend the 60 day requirement
to have a sewer plan in place until June 2007. Ms. Polanski visited both
trash (vehicle) sites and the ones at Sandusky are plated the ones on County
Road 180E are approximately 2/10 tenths of a mile off the road but will
contact to see if they run.
Commissioners asked if anyone had anything they wanted to discuss and Mark
Haston wanted to comment on the Airport. Mr. Haston told the Commissioners
that the President of Honda would not land at our airport even with an
expansion of the runway. Our airport does not have the traffic controllers,
security or runway that Honda requires.
With nothing else to come before the Commissioners, Mr. Richards moved to
recess, Mr. Buell seconded and Mr. Buening concurred.
