DECATUR COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING MINUTES
FEBRUARY 21, 2006
The Decatur County Council held the February 21st meeting with the following present: Rheadawn Metz, Tom Carroll, Geneva Hunt, Al Knecht, Rose Hellmich, Ken Owens and Auditor Bridgett Weber.
Mr. Owens moved to approve the January 17th meeting minutes and Mr. Knecht seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Tim Ortman requested guidance from Council members how to handle incoming bills for miscellaneous items dealing with parcel maintenance. Council members discussed using Reassessment monies for these expenses.
Additional appropriations were discussed. Mr. Owens moved to approve appropriations for $250,000.00 for Cum Cap Washington School; $9,000.00 for Commissioners Ambulance; Auditor Equipment $6,600.00; and Animal Shelter Mileage in the amount of $300.00, Mr. Knecht seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Dan Wilson of County Extension provided a copy of the department’s 2005 annual report. Mr. Wilson introduced Tina Rozhan, Food Service Educator. Mrs. Rozhan presented a report of the clubs and activities she is currently servicing. Mike Cole, Youth Extension Educator will be leaving his position and also presented a report for 2005.
Dave Stultz with TIWABA requested $20,000.00 in funding for economic development for Westport and the surrounding area. Mrs. Metz indicated that the City/County Comprehensive Plan is not just for zoning and that Mr. Stultz should talk to Mr. Neuman.
Sue Colee of the Health Department requested a raise for Rosie Stier. Carol Beck informed Council members that Mrs. Stier has been an asset to the county. Mr. Knecht moved to approve the amended 144 in the amount of $20.00 per hour for Rosie Stier, Mr. Carroll seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Jerome Buening discussed with Council members salaries for Mark Mohr, Highway Superintendent and Tim Ortman, Assistant Superintendent. Currently they are working a 36 hour week and the laborers are working 40 hours. In years past, the district supervisors have made more than the superintendents. Mr. Buening requested that the superintendents be put on a 40 hour work week and be paid for those hours worked. Mrs. Hunt moved to approve salary increases for both superintendents, Mrs. Hellmich seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Mrs. Hellmich moved to adjourn, and Mr. Knecht seconded the motion. Motion carried.
