DECATUR COUNTY COUNCIL
NOVEMBER 21, 2006
The Decatur County Council held their November 21st meeting with the
following present: Ernie Gauck- President, Rheadawn Metz, Tom Carroll,
Geneva Hunt, Al Knecht, Rose Hellmich, Ken Owens and Bridgett Weber-
Auditor.
Mr. Knecht moved to approve the October 17th meeting minutes as read and Mr.
Carroll seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Larry Fair of M&S Precision discussed the $740,000.00 cost of moving to the
larger KS Bearings facility. Mr. Fair reported that M& S currently has 70
employees and by 2008 that number will double along with the salaries. Mr.
Fair requested the use of county dollars to bring the building up to code.
Council members agreed they would be unable to fund every building in the
county that was not up to code.
Ginny Whipple requested to be hired for assessment services for the Honda
Plant. Mrs. Metz would like to let the new assessor decide on contractual
services and Mr.Gauck agreed.
Robin Nobbe – Assessor reported to Council members that the new construction
contract is signed in the fall. Mrs. Nobbe stated that the townships want
her to do the work making it a permanent position. Mr. Owens would like to
wait to see if Tami Wenning will need the help after she gets into the
office of Assessor.
Vicki Kellerman of the EDC gave Council members a report on the Japan
Mission and showed pictures of the plaque presented. During the trip, they
met with current industries and introduced themselves to possible future
companies. Mr. Gauck expressed the need for EDC to work with current
employers to retain their employees.
Mr. Knecht moved to approve additional appropriations and transfers and Mrs.
Hellmich seconded the motion. Motion carried.
ADDITIONALS: Cumulative Bridge $120,000.00; E911 $40,000.00; County General
$25,654.00
Mr. Owens moved to give Human Services $1000.00 and Mrs. Metz seconded the
motion. Motion carried.
Ed Kerner with the Association of Indiana Counties encouraged Council
members to join National Association of County Officials. NACO is providing
a drug card benefit to all counties who join.
Mark Mohr- Highway Superintendent discussed the possibility of adding
another hourly person to his crew. Council members agreed along as Mr. Mohr
could work within his current budget.
Sheriff Daryl Templeton requested 4 additional jailers. Mrs. Metz moved to
approve 3 jailers and Mrs. Hunt seconded adding that 1 to be paid out of
corrections monies. Motion carried. Sheriff Templeton will need to request
additional appropriation to cover the 2007 budget.
With nothing else to come before the Council, Mr. Knecht moved adjourn and
Mrs. Hellmich seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned.
